The Principal’s Pen – September 2012

The Principal’s Pen from the September 2012 News from the Point

Dear Patriots:

Welcome back to another great school year at Bayonet Point.  We are excited about this year and all the great learning opportunities for our students. One of the changes will be our On Track system for students.  The students will be given opportunities for having good grades, attendance, and behavior.  If you visit our school website you will be able to see the criteria for each of these areas for your child to be “On Track.”

We will be scheduling parent involvement nights again this year to share information with you to help your child succeed.  Please join us at these events so that we can work together with you to make this school year very successful. I would also encourage you to visit our new parent resource room in the front office.  Our parent involvement assistant, Joan Rosalia, would love for you to stop by and see the resources we have for parents.

In this month’s newsletter you will find very important information regarding Title 1 and what it means for us to be a Title 1 school.  Title 1 gives us the ability to do extra things for our students that we normally would not be able to do.  Some of the things enclosed in this month’s newsletter are the parent involvement plan, the school compact (which needs to be signed and returned as soon as possible) and a brochure on What Parents Should Know About Title I.

Another brochure that is very important is the one about Penny for Pasco.  This brochure will give you facts about what the district will be doing with these dollars if the voters approve to extend this tax.  Bayonet Point Middle School will be affected by these dollars.  We will be the next school after the passage of the Penny for Pasco referendum to be renovated with these tax dollars.  This tax not only goes to our schools, but is also used in many projects through out our county.

Take an opportunity to visit our school web site.  On the web site you will find team information along with homework pages.  These homework pages will help you keep track of your students’ assignments, projects and due dates.  Another valuable tool is Esembler, which helps you keep track of your child’s attendance and grades.  You can also directly e-mail your child’s teacher from Esembler.

We are excited about this year and working with you and your child.  For those of you who are new to our school, welcome to the Bayonet Point family.  To our returning students and families, welcome back!

With Patriot Pride,
Michael Asbell
