Each year, the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) conducts a parent survey designed to provide FLDOE and the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, with information on how well Florida’s schools are supporting parents’ involvement in their child’s education. The survey is open to all parents of children with disabilities receiving exceptional student education (ESE) services from preschool through Grade 12. You may reach this online survey by going to www.esesurvey.com. The online survey is provided in English and Spanish, and will be available online until June 30, 2013.

Penny for Pasco. Promises Made, Promises Kept. Remember to vote on November 6th.
Penny for Pasco is the one cent sales tax that the voters of Pasco approved in 2004, 45% of which goes directly to support the capital needs of our school system. The remaining portion is split between the county and local cities. The school system has received over $139 million in Penny for Pasco proceeds which have been used on the construction of new schools and the renovation of older schools. These funds were vital in helping the District ease massive overcrowding in our schools.
The current penny sales tax will expire in 2014, unless renewed by the voters of Pasco County this November. The Penny issue will be the last item on the November ballot. This is not a new tax, but rather an extension of the current sales tax. If approved, the Penny for Pasco sales tax will generate $226 million that will be used to provide much needed repair and renovations to aging schools. It will also be used to improve energy efficiency in schools and to retrofit and equip older schools built before 1975 with the technology students need to succeed in the 21st century. By law, none of these funds can be used for administration or operating costs. Survey for Parents of Students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
The Florida Department of Education is conducting its 2011-2012 parent survey designed to provide the state with information on how well schools are supporting parents’ involvement in their child’s education. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), states must report this information to the federal government on an annual basis. The responses to the survey provide important information for planning and monitoring improvement activities. This survey, conducted only once a year, provides parents with a unique opportunity to be heard.
Survey results are reported to the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, as part of Florida’s Annual Performance Report and are posted on the Florida Department of Education’s website at www.fldoe.org/ese.
The survey will be available online from February 1 through June 30, 2012 to all parents of children with IEP’S in preschool to 12th grade. (Note: This survey is not for parents whose students are in the gifted programs.)
Go online to www.ESEsurvey.com to complete the survey and provide your valuable input.
